Here is a nice fossil herring from the Eocene of Wyoming. This is Knightia eocaena from the Green River Formation. This distinct fossil fish is complete and exhibits fine detail. The bone structure and fins are nicely displayed, the eye socket of the fish is easily seen, and the overall shape is quite nice. The fossil has great color and contrasts beautifully with the light-colored matrix. The fish is nicely centered on the rectangular plate of shale. This is an affordable example of a large fossil herring from the Eocene.
This fossil was collected and obtained legally, and is also being sold legally. A Certificate of Authenticity from EXTINCTIONS is included with this specimen.
