This is a very exotic fossil fish. It is a beautiful Ctenothrissa vexillifer from the sublithographic limestone of Lebanon. Fossils from this area are very hard to obtain because of years of political unrest. This amazing specimen has a bizarre ''sail-backed'' dorsal fin and large, extended fins on the underside. The fish has incredibly fine detail, even displaying the individual bones and eye socket. The fossil has stunning, reddish-orange coloration that contrasts beautifully with the light-colored matrix. And there is even a fossil shrimp preserved with the fish, actually entwined in the fins! This is a unique specimen of a beautiful tropical fish and a shrimp literally preserved together.
