This is a very nice fossil fish. It is a large Knightia humilis from the Green River Formation of Wyoming. The fossil fish is extremely well preserved and exhibits wonderful detail. The eye socket is easily seen, and the fins are intact. The gill covers are quite evident, and the scale pattern is even preserved. This fish has natural dark coloration and contrasts nicely with the cream-colored rock. It is almost perfectly centered on the oval matrix plate. This is a beautiful example of a fossil fish from the famous Green River Shale.
